Le exigimos a Obama que cumpla con su palabra y se acaben las guerras

Estimado Señor Presidente Barack Obama:

El pasado 19 de marzo marcó el octavo aniversario de la invasión a Irak, que unida a la guerra de ocupación en Afganistán han costado la vida a más de 1 millón trescientos mil civiles iraquíes y afganos; 112 militares boricuas y más de 6,366 estadounidenses. El costo humano incluye también a miles de heridos física y emocionalmente; el saqueo de museos; la destrucción de escuelas, bibliotecas, universidades; la migración de más de tres millones de seres humanos que huyen de las guerras, la desarticulación de redes familiares y humanitarias .

Mientras los mercaderes de la muerte que son los accionistas de compañías privadas de armamentos, petroleros, de equipos bélicos y contratistas privados de los llamados proyectos de reconstrucción se lucran, hay un empobrecimiento extremo en los Estados Unidos y en Puerto Rico: miles de empleados pierden sus trabajos ; familias enteras pierden sus hogares . Las Madres contra la Guerra denunciamos la agenda de su administración como una continuación de la agenda bélica de su predecesor, George W. Bush. Usted había prometido que a 16 meses de su toma al poder, todas las tropas habrían salido de Irak. Hoy , a casi tres años de su presidencia, las tropas se mantienen en Irak (reducidas, pero con soldados a sueldo como refuerzos) y han aumentado en Afganistán, a pesar de que ya han sido asesinados Osama Bin Laden y Saddam Hussein.
Las familias militares y nuestros hijos e hijas en la milicia hemos sufrido inmensamente. Las Madres contra la Guerra le exigimos el cese de las guerras y a que los militares reciban el tratamiento de salud física y emocional que necesitan. También le pedimos que se organice ayuda humanitaria para los pueblos afgano e iraquí. Porque la maternidad es vida y la guerra es muerte, luchamos por la paz.

Dear Mr. Barack Obama, President of the United States of America:

Last March 19th marked the eighth anniversary of the Iraq War, which, along with the Afghan war, has cost the lives of about one million three hundred thousand Iraqi and Afghan civilians; 112 Puerto Rican military men and women, and about 6,366 American troops. Human loss also includes thousands of wounded physically and emotionally; the pillage of museums; the destruction of schools, libraries, universities , and the exile of more than three million human beings fleeing from wars; thus breaking up their families. While death merchants, those who benefit from private oil, military equipment, arms trade shareholders, and the so called reconstruction projects, benefit financially from the wars, there is an increased and extreme pauperization in the United States and in Puerto Rico: thousands of employees lose their jobs; and entire families lose their homes, due in part to your administration's commitment to military spending, the highest in the history of the United States . On December 22, 2010, your administration approved $725,000 billion dollars for the Department of Defense, and $118,000 billion additional monies for " war contingencies".

Mothers Against the War (Madres contra la Guerra) denounce your administration as a mere continuation of your predecessor 's military agenda, that of George W. Bush., You had promised that troops would be home from Iraq by your 16th month in power. Today, at about three years of your administration, military troops remain in Iraq, albeit reduced, but with private soldiers paid by taxpayers' monies. Military troops have increased in Afghanistan, in spite of both Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein's demise.
Military families and our sons and daughters in the military have suffered immensely. Mothers Against the War demand the end of these wars, and that our military men and women receive the physical , and emotional health treatment that they so direly need . We also urge you to organize a humanitarian effort to assist in Iraq and Afghanistan. Because motherhood is life, and war is death, we struggle for Peace.
